Math – Sci Honesty Store is a joint project of Mathematics and Science departments which aims to teach the students the value of money and to give the students a chance to practice HONESTY in simple ways just like in buying school supplies. It is said that if you are honest in small things you are also honest in bigger things. This is inspired by the honesty store found in Batanes and different countries. It was observed that people can really be honest if only given a chance.
This store has no seller and so students have to serve themselves in buying. It is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It started last November 9 and will end on December 11. It sells school supplies such as pad papers, ballpens, pencils, markers, folders, scotch tapes, erasers and other school – related stuff.
There are steps in buying in this store. First, students must fall in line. Second, they have to get the item that they want. Third, they will drop their money in the paper bill and coin bank. And lastly, they have to write their names in the log book.
Honesty in simplest way means being truthful to yourself and to others and doing what is right regardless of who is around. If we can help our children to be honest now, they can be productive and truthful members of the community in the future.
